The Italian melodic power metal band Kalidia was formed in 2010, released its first demo-EP in 2012 and began playing extensively around Italy.
After receiving great feedback from both the press and fans, the band independently released their debut album Lies’ Device in 2014. The music video for the title track went viral, earning over 900,000 views on YouTube.
Between 2014 and 2017 Kalidia continued to tour Italy, Germany and the UK, sharing the stage with leading artists such as Rhapsody of Fire, Serenity, Cellar Darling, Ancient Bards, Vision Divine, Timo Tolkki, DGM and many more. Nicoletta Rosellini has also become famous for her guest appearance with Rhapsody Reunion and as a guest singer for Overtures with whom she has been on stage at many European festivals such as Gods of Metal, MetalDays, SpazioRock Festival and more.
Once the band started writing songs for the album following Lies’ Device, they felt they had some great material in the pipeline. During this time the band was contacted by Lars Rettkowitz who was interested in working with the band as he thought they were very promising. The band and Lars connected in a great way and it turned out that they shared the same visions for the direction of the band, so they agreed to work together and Lars ended up producing and mixing the album. The mastering was curated by Achim Köhler and the artwork was created by Stan W Decker.
Inspired by classic power metal bands like Rhapsody of Fire, Hammerfall and Stratovarius and new bands like Beast In Black, Kalidia created an uplifting melodic power metal album with roots in classic power metal with a modern and fresh twist.
In May 2018 Kalidia signed a record deal with Inner Wound Recordings – the album The Frozen Throne was released on November 23, 2018.
