Gianluca Costantini

Gianluca Costantini is an activist artist who has been fighting his battles through drawing for years.

Accused of terrorism by the Turkish government, he outraged many French readers for a short comic strip on the history of the terrorists of Charlie Hebdo.

He actively collaborates with the organizations ActionAid, Amnesty, ARCI and SOS Mediterranée.

His drawings have become the story of the HRW Film Festival in London and Toronto, the FIFDH Human Rights Festival in Geneva, the Human Rights Festival in Milan and the Internazionale Festival in Ferrara.

From 2016 to 2019 he accompanied with drawings the activities of DiEM25 Democracy in Europe Movement 2025, the movement founded by Yanis Varoufakis and actively collaborates online with the artist Ai Weiwei.

In 2017 he was nominated for the European Citizenship Awards. In 2019, she received Amnesty International’s Art and Human Rights Award.

He has published comic stories in Internazionale, L’Espresso, Pagina99, D la Repubblica, Narcomafie Relazioni and Corriere della Sera in Italy, on LeMan in Turkey, on Courrier International and Le Monde Diplomatique in France, on World War Illustrated in the United States.

He collaborates with the American information portals CNN, Words Without Borders and Muftah Magazine, with the English The New Arab and the Dutch Drawing the Times, in Italy with ilPOST, Focus and Graphic News.

He has published illustrations on Domani, Oggi, Il Foglio, Focus Africa, Left Weltzit by Deutsche Welle, Wendepunk.T in Germany, A Batalha in Portugal, komplike in Turkey, Mekong Review in Australia, Voice & Verse in Hong Kong.
