Mary e lo spirito di mezzanotte
Directed by Enzo D’Alò
Enzo D’Alò’s latest masterpiece originates from the novel The Midnight Trip by Irish writer Roddy Doyle, known for creating the famous film The Commitments.
Through this universal story of love and friendship, D’Alò manages to intertwine a wide variety of emotions and moods, allowing an audience of children and adults to grasp and appreciate even the most subtle nuances.
The protagonist is Mary, an 11-year-old girl with an irrepressible passion for cooking and the desire to become a great chef. Her special bond with her grandmother Emer encourages her to pursue this dream. But the path to personal fulfilment is studded with obstacles, even unpredictable ones, which become as many adventures to be faced.
The film follows Mary on a journey that transcends the boundaries of time, in which four generations of women have the opportunity to confront and get to know each other in depth. What emerges is a delicate story of growth, deeply ironic and touching, capable of involving and exciting both children and adults.
The film received 1 nomination for the Nastri d’Argento, 1 nomination for the European Film Awards.
